Interview with Andy Woodfield, founder Lilliput Dorset Gin

Poole-based Lilliput Dorset Gin has just bagged an Outstanding Silver award in the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition and a 2-star Great Taste rating from the Guild of Fine Food. Not bad going for a business set up only a few months ago by Andy Woodfield who admits it was initially a bit of an experiment.

“When we first started out in January this year it was very much an experiment and we had no idea if it would work so our challenge has been to learn quickly and adapt,” explains Andy.

Invigorating spirit of summer

“I really wanted to create a product that captured the invigorating spirit of summer on the Dorset coast, escaping from the daily dramas of life back to something just a little more real – the simpler, refreshing and timeless beauty of life on the Jurassic coastline of Dorset.”

Andy is clearly a man that loves his job: “the most exciting part of the process is the distilling where we use copper pot stills. We decided to keep our production processes quite traditional and small scale for now and this is helping us perfect the art of distilling the most beautiful products.

“We were delighted the judges loved our beautiful new gin, and have been overwhelmed with the response from our customers.”

And what of the future? “We’re loving the process and will continue to see where things go. We hope we’ll become another one of Dorset’s great success stories.”
